To support translational research, the department has introduced a series of top-down scientific programs designed to develop technological platforms and encourage close collaboration between basic scientists and clinicians on targeted research projects. These programs include the Novel Biomarkers Program, the Novel Diagnostics Program, and the Smartfood Program. Moreover, the department is strongly committed to gender equality through the WoMen in Science Project and actively addresses Ethical, Legal, and Societal Issues through extensive experience in bioethics and Science and Technology Studies, as part of the Science in Society Project.
